What Order should you build your vehicle?
A question that we are often asked time and time again is 'What order should I build my vehicle?' Is there a right or wrong way? You can either check out the video below, or read on for Nick's answer.
In summarising what Nick had to say, here's his advice:
What order you complete your build is less important than knowing your plan for the complete build when you start. The reason for this is that if we know all of the things that are going to go on the vehicle, we can make allowances for how those things will affect the vehicle, even though they might not be on there right now. That means that we can setup the vehicle with the end in mind so that when you finish the buikd, everything works optimally.
The reality is that a change in weight on the vehicle of just 50KGs can materially affect the way the vehicle sits, rides, and handles. So it is very important we know the end goal so we can choose the suspension, wheel offsets and other gear to make sure that the vehicle is right in the end.
What if I don't know how I want the vehicle to end up?
This is a good question! We'd always recommend finishing your planning before you begin the build, even if you know it will take years to be able to afford / get it right. We can accommodate minor changes to the build, but you really should have an 80% solution before you start. If you don't, that is OK, but the risk you run is that you spend $ on wheels and tyres, or suspension in particular, which will then need to be changed or upgraded later on because of the changes made to the vehicle. This just means you pay a bit more to get it right in the end.
At SOLVE, we pride ourselves on working with our customers to make sure that the vehicle they end up building is setup just right for how they intend to use their vehicle. If you've got questions, please reach out - we'd love to discuss your build and help you make sure it is setup fit for purpose.
